Top 10 Places in the Algarve to See with a Private Driver
The Algarve is brilliant if you know where to go. Problem is, the best spots are usually a pain to reach by bus, and renting a car in summer means dealing with parking on cliff edges and traffic in places like Albufeira. Having a driver makes the whole thing easier. Here are 10 spots we end up taking people to over and over.
1. Vilamoura Marina
Easy place to start. Restaurants, bars, shops along the water, plenty of yacht-watching if that's your thing. Nice spot for sunset. We can drop you off and pick you up later so nobody has to drive after dinner.
2. Praia da Marinha
Probably the most photographed beach in the Algarve. The cliffs, the arches, the colour of the water, all of it. Walk along the top for the best views. Bring proper shoes if you can.
3. Benagil Caves
The big cave with the hole in the roof. You'll need to get there by kayak or boat from one of the nearby beaches. We can drop you at the launch point.
4. Lagos Old Town
Pretty town, cobbled streets, decent restaurants, plenty of history. Worth a half day. Park outside, walk in. We sort the parking bit.
5. Sagres and Cape St Vincent
The southwesternmost point of Europe. Cliffs, the old fort, an old lighthouse. Bring a jumper, it's windy up there even in August. Sunset here is hard to beat.
6. Silves Castle
Red sandstone walls from the Moorish era. Views over the orange groves. Quieter than the coastal towns, usually a nice change.
7. Quinta do Lago
Posh resort area. Smart restaurants, championship golf, the lake (Quinta do Lago means "lake estate"). Good lunch spot if you want a fancier day out.
8. Ria Formosa Natural Park
Lagoons, sandbanks, flamingos if you're lucky. You can take a boat from Olhão out to one of the islands. Great if you've had enough of busy beaches.
9. Alte Village
Inland, up in the hills. Whitewashed houses, a couple of natural springs, a few small cafés. Not a lot happens here, which is exactly the point.
10. Albufeira Old Town
Albufeira's strip gets a bad reputation but the Old Town is different. Squares, tiled buildings, seafood restaurants. Go for grilled sardines.
How a Driver Makes It Easier
You're not driving so you can have a glass of wine with lunch. You don't have to stress about parking, which in summer is no joke. And you can change your plans halfway through the day if you want to, without working out a new bus route.
If you want to do a day out like this, give us a ring or book through the site. Tell us roughly what you want to see and we'll work out the route.
